NATURA 2000 AREAS

European Ecological Network Natura 2000 is a kind of system of areas connected one with each other by ecological corridors. These areas form together a coherent ecological network, of which basic task is prevention of biodiversity. It happens through protection of the most valuable and the most rare nature elements.

Within the area of the Forest District Lubsko, there are 6 areas of Natura 2000,established on the basis of Habitats Directive, with its overall area of 5.472,20 ha.
  • Uroczyska Borów Zasieckich Despite of a dominance  of coniferous forest landscape, refugium is  a mosaic of habitats, what is manly connected with rich hydrographic network and dispersed water and mud or moss ecosystems in the  whole area.
  • Mierkowskie Wydmy
The area covers very interesting grassland communities on the tops of dunes , through dry (subcontinental) lichen Scots pine forests (Cladonio-Pinetum) on the slope of hills, to fresh coniferous forests and wet and muddy swamps including very valuable moss with beak – rush, sundews (drosera) and haircap moss. There one can also meet very interesting  and rare species of ground lichen.
  • Lubski Łęg Śnieżycowy
This is extremely interesting,  in means of nature, close complex of riparian and oak and hornbeam deciduous forests, clinging to the town Lubsko from the east. Deciduous forests cover 95% of the whole territory. In the eastern part, there are large compact aras of spring snowflakes.

  • Jeziora Brodzkie  the area is characterised by remarkable natural values, both on the level of plant and landscape  communities. On the local hills and slopes, there is Luzulo pilosae-Fagetum.

Balanced forest management contributed to the survival of different  groups of plants, that is why Natura 2000 Areas  are a refugium for rare elements of fauna and flora.

  • Dolina Lubszy
To the most valuable habitats of the Lubsza River, there belong alder riparian forests and alder fraxinus riparian forests, which are locally distinguished by mass occurrence of ostrich fern. There also remained some fragments of spring riparian forests. Swamp forests are presented byVaccinio uliginosi - Betuletum pubescentis  complexes.
  • Brożek
The area is located in the Valley of Lusatian Neisse, directly by the Polish – German border. These are mostly grounds remaining after former gravel exploration, where now we can find two big ponds and dispersed within the whole area small, wet hollows. The most valuable environmental characteristic of described area is appearance of threatened  plant species within the territory of the whole Europe. One of mentioned species is water fern – pillwort.
